Since 1999, the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation has been enabling Canadians to lead the world in the discovery and advancement of cures of inherited diseases through supporting the human genetics community. In addition to funding research grants, we have supported those students working towards their MD/PhD as well as the youth in Canada who have an interest in following in the footsteps of great researchers by providing them an opportunity for one on one mentorship.
Help us make a difference in the lives of those families who are affected by inherited diseases by advancing cures and treatments through research, education and an investment in Canada’s best and brightest researchers.

General Donation
Donors can provide the Foundation with the greatest flexibility to be responsive to existing and new priorities by making unrestricted or broadly targeted donations. However, if you would like to direct your donation to a specific program, your contribution will be used to support the program of your choice.
Research Grants
The Canadian Gene Cure Foundation annually awards grants for leading genetic research conducted within Canada. Scientists rely largely on receiving funds from non-governmental organizations such as the Foundation, in order to continue with their research. Since its inception, CGCF has awarded grants into areas of Diabetes, Down Syndrome, and Adverse Drug Reactions in Children, to name a few. Donations are critical for the success of genetics research in Canada.
Gene Researcher for a Week
Gene Researcher for a Week (GRFAW) is an initiative of the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation that began in 2003. Different from other mentorship programs, GRFAW provides a hands-on experience. This program places grades 11 and 12 students in a lab of a top Canadian scientist for one week, giving them an opportunity to engage both with people and the science. This unique experience inspires many students to pursue an education and career in the sciences.
Scriver MD/PhD Scholarship Program
The Scriver MD/PhD Scholarship program assists students pursuing both their medical degree and PhD simultaneously. These scholarships have been awarded in conjunction with CIHR and the Canadian Genetic Diseases Network. The objective of this scholarship is to help develop Canadian researchers with a clinical understanding, specifically through their training period.
